Welcome to Year 5 & 6 Class
Our Aims
In year 5&6, we aim to meet the needs of every child. We aim to provide varied and challenging learning experiences in order to help pupils develop lively inquiring minds, to be creative and to expand their intellectual capacities.
We aim to develop a child’s independence and personal responsibility in the learning situation, so that with encouragement they become self-disciplined, well motivated and best equipped towards fulfilling their individual potential.
We aim to provide a sound foundation in literacy, numeracy and ICT skills and to foster attitudes towards these disciplines so that pupils can use these skills efficiently and effectively.
We aim to provide opportunities so that children can gain a wide knowledge, experience and understanding across the curriculum. In doing so they will develop, use and apply language, mathematical and creative skills, which will enable them to gain and understand new information.

P.E. & Games
Fitness is extremely important to us in years 5&6. Children have timetabled Physical Education lessons each week in which they enjoy being active and using their creativity and imagination in physical activity. The main areas covered focus on gymnastics, games, swimming, athletics, and dance, as well as running a daily mile! Each year we also hold a Sports Day where children take part in a range of athletic activities and compete with their house teams. We have recently started running the local ‘Parkrun’ where parents and children run 5k on a Saturday morning.
Foundation Subjects
The foundation subjects include History, Geography, Art, Design Technology and Music. These are taught through the topic the children are studying and are carefully designed to allow the children to develop key skills and apply them independently to a range of contexts.
